Have You Been Unknowingly Undermining Your Diet?

By Mildred Boone

We all understand that one of the best foods for our weight loss plans are lean meats, whole grains and healthy fats. These will be the ingredients that will give us the energy and protein we need. They keep our bodies balanced nutritionally but don't stuff us full of empty calories which will later need to be burned off at the gym. Did you know though that a number of the diet foods you've been consuming may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They could possibly be even adding fat laden calories to your body! Check out a number of the food items that might be allowing you to accidentally sabotage your diet.

Sports Drinks tend not to actually help you. You've probably been thinking that the sports drink is the easiest way to help your system feel greater after a workout. Many doctors agree, though, that if your exercise routine is under ninety minutes, water is a fine way to do this. Sports drinks could totally weaken your diet because they are filled to the brim with sugar, empty calories and artificial colors and flavors. Try drinking some chocolate milk as an alternative. The sugar in chocolate can help your muscles start to mend themselves plus the calcium in the milk will strengthen your bones.

You do not need protein shakes. So many people think that drinking a protein shake is a good way to stop cravings when it isn't meal time. The truth of the matter is that when you are already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake does is overburden your system with protein. No matter what other folks believe, protein is not kept in the muscles, it is stored in your body as fat. If you've already eaten your daily allotment of protein that day, your body will just save the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't help you drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat seriously isn't as useful to you as you might think. You probably are convinced a sandwich that is made out of pre-packaged lean deli meat and whole grain bread is a pretty good lunch. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has far too many preservatives and sodium (one serving contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This will probably be particularly unsafe if you are at risk of contracting heart disease. Instead of picking deli meat, pick home grilled chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Sure these are a lot more expensive options but they are quite a lot healthier for you.

There are plenty of things that we believe are better than others like choosing a whole wheat bagel each morning when the truth is that a bowl of cinnamon sprinkled oatmeal is a much healthier choice. Ask your doctor which ingredients are most effective for you and then eat those. If you are cautious about what you eat and are also good to your body, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
