Solving Obesity Problems With Gastric Sleeve Surgeons

By Tammie Caldwell

Gastric surgery is a procedure done in the stomach in order to help an obese patient lose weight. This is usually the case when nonsurgical methods and exercise do not work anymore. This is s a restrictive surgery and the process makes the stomach smaller, which is common in Ridgewood, NJ. Hence, patients will feel full faster than they used to be. But there is a need to really adjust. There will be a long adjustment period for this.

There are two options, open surgery or laparoscopic technique. These are both done by gastric sleeve surgeons in NJ. They have taken formal medical education and training before they are able to do this because this is such a sensitive procedure. There must also be proper diet in order to fulfill the promise of weight loss in the surgery.

The surgeon will cut your tummy in the open surgery. On the other hand, in the laparoscopic method, they will simply incise some parts of the belly bit by bit and then taking away parts of the stomach using a tiny device with a small camera. During the first week after surgery, you may feel nauseous.

Another thing is that it may cause diarrhea. Often, especially during the first week, there will be a feeling of faintness and nausea. Doctors advice not to do heavy exercises after an open surgery. After around one to three months, daily routine and some light exercises can be done. But many prefer the laparoscopic approach wherein they can recover more quickly.

More or less, three months will take before your full recovery. During the first month, you are advised to eat soft food. And in all the days of your life, you will be eating only a few amount of food, unlike during the past. You need to follow orders from your doctors so you will really achieve the kind of body you are aiming for.

You need to keep watch of your diet. If you will still keep on drinking soda and other high calorie drinks, there is a possibility that you will still not lose weight, which will throw away your aim. In addition, if you force yourself to eat the same amount of food you used to eat, tendency is your tummy will stretch and that will defeat the aim of the surgery.

The downside to this is that you will not be able to take as much nutrition and vitamins you ought to. Dietitians and nutritionists shall help you with this problem. They are going to give recommendations and food preparation techniques that will aid you to a life of balanced diet.

But you should know that you will still need some vitamins to supplement your food intake. The success rate of the method is high as long as you adhere strictly to the recommendations of the surgeon and the dietitian. Those who followed the recommendations after their operations have lost half of their weight.

However, there could be some risks and side effects if you are not careful. These include cut infection, blood clot, and stomach leaks. For others, there are long term effects like anemia, kidney infection, and osteoporosis.
