Beneficial Procedures for Aging Skin

By Stina Delance

Skin will have a more bright and youthful look when people take steps to improve their overall health. You can have younger looking skin for longer, despite aging that can not be avoided, if you take proper care of yourself. Skin will respond positively to an overall healthy lifestyle, but along with this, one can enhance the skin by having Botox, chemical peels, Photofacials, or a facelift procedure. Before a cosmetic treatment, appropriate skin care is very important, and of course during the procedure, and immediately following it.

It is well known that the best way for a person to reduce aging of the skin is to avoid excessive exposure to the sun. The majority of damage that we receive to our skin is from UV or ultraviolet rays from tanning salons or the sun, and this ages the skin much more quickly. Sunscreen is important to apply to the skin because we may not notice the damage that the sun does to our skin, as it accumulates over time slowly.

Keeping the skin hydrated will make it appear less aged and more healthful. A high quality moisturizer for your face will keep skin hydrated on the surface level, with daily usage.

The way we eat shows up in our skin. Essential fatty acids are required, such as omega 3 and omega 6, to maintain optimal skin function and appearance. You can find this in foods like walnuts, fish, and flax seed oil. For many people, their diets include most of what they need in this area, and the skin gets most of the essential fatty acids that it requires. Using whole wheat grains is a healthier choice than white bread options that are available. Be sure to have plenty of vegetables and fruits, low-far dairy products, and look for non-saturated fat options. Follow the recommendations of your dietitian or doctor, and use good judgment. The overall health that you enjoy will increase when you have a good diet, and the skin will look younger for longer.

The damage we receive in our skin is repaired by the natural enzymes within it. Skin will look younger for longer as these repair the damage we take from the sun, but they can only do so much as some aging happens no matter what. Tobacco products such as cigarettes contain toxins and free radicals that kill these helpful enzymes, and will also destroy collagen and elastin which keep skin more tight and youthful looking. Smokers need to keep in mind that with every cigarette a smoker has, their skin's aging progression is increased. Quitting smoking will help a lot, so make every attempt at doing so. The accelerated aging of the skin will be slowed down, and the other dangers that are associated with smoking will be avoided.

Some people are naturally more likely to get acne than others. No one likes the scars that are sometimes the result of acne breakouts. Acne can be controlled using modern methods available by a dermatologist. This will help to keep your skin young and prevent acne pits and scars from developing. Your doctor will be able to help you assess the best treatment plan. For those with more serious problems, a chemical peel is an option for acne, and this can be assessed and administered by a cosmetic surgeon.
