You know what I mean; even if they are not obviously sick, there is just something about them that seems fragile. They walk more slowly and carefully, and they depend on others to do many things for them, rather than doing those things themselves.
Why? What is it about nearly every elderly person that makes them frail? The answer may surprise you, but it should also encourage you, because you do not have to become frail as you age. It is called sarcopenia, which is just a fancy name for muscle loss.
If you are age twenty five or older, you have already started to lose some of your muscle tissue. And the older you get, the more you lose. Women who are aged 40 or older can even lose up to one half pound of muscle each year.
The good news is that you can stop this muscle loss in its tracks and even turn it around. Even though you can't grow back muscle that you have lost, you can build up and strengthen the muscle that you have left to the point that you do not even realize you have lost any!
