Wondering If Botox Is Right For You?

By Alina H. Winamaker

Botox can be used under prescription for smoothing away the frown lines that both men and women get in middle age between the eyebrows and can also be used for other facial wrinkles. Smoothing out lines is what it is most often used for. This type of cosmetic improvement is used mostly by people who feel the lines on their forehead make them look tired or even angry.

You should not consider this treatment if you have an allergy to any of the ingredients of Botox. And common sense dictates that you shouldn't go ahead if there is an infection in the skin surrounding the area being injected. Before a treatment, tell your physician if you have any issues such as asthma that affect your breathing.

How does it work?

The skin's wrinkles normally form right next to a muscle that is close to, and normally beneath, it.The Botox restricts nerve impulses from reaching the tissue that causes the wrinkle. So, little muscle movement results in the skin supported by the muscle stopping being creased by constant expression contractions. With inhibited muscle contractions, lines and wrinkles stop forming. As a result, with fewer wrinkles and frown lines the person has a more youthful look.

Botox injections is used for wrinkles as a non-invasive procedure that takes less than half an hour. The practitioner injects a small amount of Botox into the site to be treated. As the Botox starts working, it blocks the nerve signals to the muscles under the skin. The muscle becomes relaxed and the skin smooths, which makes facial lines diminish.

The Botox Injection Treatment may leave the skin a bit red and sore, but this is usually very minor and will reduce after a few days. A patient can usually return to work the same day, right after leaving the clinic. Within 3 days the treatment usually starts to work, but the full effect may take up to a week.

Post-Treatment

Try to exercise your treated muscles for one to two hours following your procedure. Squinting, frowning and raising your eyebrows should all be practiced. This helps work the Botox into your muscles. While this can help, it won't impact your results negatively if you forget or don't have the time to do it.

Be careful not rub or massage those areas that have been treated and do not do yoga, heavy lifting or any type of strenuous exercise for four hours after the treatment. Moreover, do not ingest Advil, Tylenol or vitamin D after the procedure.

And don't be concerned if you see some tiny bumps or marks on your face after the procedure. Within a few hours they will go away.

Make sure whoever is doing your Botox treatment is trained specifically in this procedure. These treatments are medical procedures and need to be viewed as such.
